The diet program, Cheat Your Way Thin, tends to get quite a strong reaction from many people. There are basically two groups, on one side you have the people who are desperate to lose weight and want to do it quickly and easily, on the other side you have those that think weight loss has to be a slow painful process and won’t even consider looking into this diet plan.
I have seen some beginner dieter trying to ask around in the forum about this program and getting bashed quickly by these “experts”; some with polite words such as “you should try the proven diet such as South Beach” while the others said “The fact that you’re considering this knowing full well how bad it is, makes me feel sorry for you” and other rude words to discourage the beginner.
There is nothing wrong with seeking an expert opinion when you are starting a diet plan. The problem is that no two people are exactly the same. Some might have great success on diet plans that require food measuring, limits on the foods you can eat, exercising, etc. That doesn’t mean that is the only way to lose weight. There could very well be other weight loss plans that will work even better for you. We don’t all need to be forced into the same ‘box’ when trying to lose weight.
Many experts have had success with their own method of weight loss and refuse to look at other programs. Even though their plan has worked for them and others they refuse to acknowledge that it might not be right for everyone and that there are other worthwhile plans. Terms like, “fast weight loss”, “easy”, and “little effort”, are cause for immediate dismissal of a diet plan, and labeling it as a scam even if they don’t know anything about what the plan entails. Below I’m going to correct some common misconceptions about Cheat Your Way Thin:
1. “I stop reading about any plan that says it’s “Effortless” because I don’t believe it can really work” Joel, the author of Cheat Your Way Thin, uses the term effortless to describe the fact that you will still be able to eat all the foods you love, even junk food, in moderation. He understands that losing weight is only half the battle; you need to keep it off too. Most people won’t do that if their diet plan isn’t something they could reasonably follow for a lifetime. Since the creator of the plan is a nutritionist and personal trainer he does expect some discipline and exercise from anyone who is on the plan.
2. “I don’t believe in eating junk food. Junk food is just that, junk”. The idea is that if you can have one cheat day it will give you huge caloric spike and make the diet easier. You will use the Cheat Your Way Thin calorie calculator and be disciplined on the other days of the week. No one does well if a diet plan is too restrictive, and a ultra restrictive plan isn’t something that most people would be able to follow for the rest of their lives so they will be almost guaranteed of gaining back all the weight.
3. “Except for the cheat days the calorie intake is really low”. After the cheat day you are on a strict low carbohydrate and low GI plan for the rest of the week, but if you add up your total weekly calories you will see that your overall weekly caloric intake is the same as a ‘normal’ week.
4. “I can lose weight eating normal foods, I don’t need low nutrient, factory processed foods on my diet plan”. In order to lose weight you will need to find a diet plan that works for you and your lifestyle. There are many to choose from. If you are able to eat clean and stay on a plan using your own food then you should do that. Some people prefer more structure. They like knowing just what foods they are supposed to eat and this method helps them achieve their weight loss goals more quickly.
It’s a shame really, but we do live in a world where people tend to be very cynical and narrow minded. You have to take control of your life. In order to lose weight you have to find the diet plan that works with your personality and lifestyle. Ask questions and get recommendations, but at the end of the day you have to decide which program is best for you. Don’t just blindly follow an ‘expert’, make your own choice.
One of the best things you can do for yourself to ensure the weight loss you want is to keep an open mind when choosing a plan. Do not get sucked into one plan and close your mind to other ideas. Research is constantly showing different and effective methods for losing weight. Take some time to figure out which method you like best, choosing a plan that compliments your personality and life style will make it much easier to follow which means your chances of success on your diet are greatly improved.
