The bad thing about panic attacks is that they can occur suddenly when you least expect them. You are in no way prepared to deal with them.
You might be having fun with your friends or doing some other work. All of a sudden, you get a panic attack.
You may find yourself become fearful of engaging in those activities in which panic attack struck.
But the good news is that the activity, event or place in which you suffered panic attack may have nothing to do with the attack.
So you don’t have to avoid those places and situations. You can continue to live life as usual.
It might seem difficult at first, but when you learn not to let panic disorder affect your life, it will lose its power. This problem will then stop haunting you.
The initial courage may be the difficult to muster up. For this reason, do not try to take big steps to tackle your problem.
You are better off, taking small actionable steps which can help to overcome panic attacks. As an example, if you are afraid of going shopping, take a friend along with you who is aware of your disorder.
If you are taking any pills for this problem, keep them handy with you. This way, you will feel a little more comfortable to go to those places which you presently dread.
Just don’t try to go alone. Trying to become too brave all of a sudden may backfire at you. Be patient, and try to take little courageous steps in the right direction.
Keep reminding yourself in normal circumstances that panic attacks are not dangerous – they only feel so. You feel like dying or having a heart attack, but you are not actually having it.
Have you ever come across any reports of people dying because of panic attacks? In most cases, they are not at all dangerous but only look like so.
Once this is ingrained in your mind that panic attacks are not dangerous, you will feel little bit more safe. You will know that even if another attack happens, it is not going to cause any real damage to you.
So start taking baby steps which help in increasing your courage. Try, little by little, to attempt things which you dread. But make sure not to go for big things now.
Soon you may find that you no longer dread this problem. At this point of time, panic disorder may fade away on its own!
Avoid taking pills or medication for this problem, as much as you can. Consult a doctor before taking any pills, and only take them when absolutely necessary.
Better to go for natural treatments or behavioral therapy to learn how to tackle this problem without pills. This is a better strategy in the long run.
