So yes actually that’s right, the best facial moisturizer is actually not a moisturizer at all.

But lets look first at what a moisturizer is and what it should do for your skin.

A moisturizer is designed to improve the hydration in your skin. Or in other words it helps the skin keep moisture in the skin cells. And if the skin dries out it becomes less supple, it looks and feels drier. And it can be more prone to skin damage.

As well as protecting itself better skin that is better moisturized just looks and feels good.

And different moisturizers work differently too. For example many moisturizers work by, amongst other things, protecting the skin from sunburn by way of an added sunscreen.

But unfortunately there are moisturizers on the market that contain ingredients that can be suspect to your health and even dangerous.

For example you ought to avoid moisturizers that contain mineral oil. And many do. Why? because mineral oil coats your skin in oil and this can cause skin problems itself, like exacerbating acne problems.

But although it may sound like a contradiction I believe that you shouldn’t be using a moisturizer with sunscreen. If it’s so important to avoid sunburn surely a moisturizer with sunscreen is a great idea? No. Because you should be using your moisturizer 365 days a year. And many believe that sunscreens can cause cancer, so you don’t want to be putting a sunscreen on 365 days a year when it may be suspect and you don’t need it.
