Since starting a healthier life style, I have explored different avenues. I’m trying a high protein vegetarian diet and already I can see how it betters my life. This is something I feel needs to be researched extensively. Before starting any diet make sure you talk with your health care professional and get all the facts.
Once upon a time, many people found vegetarians to be a strange lot. I suppose it has to do with how we (as Americans) eat so much meat. That red color has to be in our dinners. In my own family, there are those who do not think it is a meal unless some flesh is on the plate. It is actually very funny when you think about it. We have been programmed to eat too much!
I practice an herbivorous diet. If you were to see me you would not believe the life style I once had. I was obese. I had high blood pressure. I became a diabetic. My menu consisted of horrible saturated fats, empty carbohydrates and sugary drinks. I was at an impasse. I had to do something different or I was going to die at an early age.
I did my homework. I put more vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans and whole grains into my meals. I did not think it would taste good. Margarine, salts, dressings were all I had known. And then I threw those bad items away. I started going to the gym. It was very difficult. I did five minutes. Then I could do ten. Now I can do cardiovascular exercises with the best of them.
The thing about this type of diet is that you replace fleshy protein with the protein that comes from other sources. This list includes, but is not limited to, lentils, beans, avocados, corn, mushrooms, onions, squash, tomatoes, and watermelon. There are so many foods available that you may be surprised at what is actually on the list.
Several studies have shown that a high protein vegetarian diet high in fruits and vegetables gives very good protection against certain cancers. Consuming this type of diet can give people about a fifty percent less chance of getting skin cancer. Those who eat a diet high in whole grains have a twenty to fifty percent less chance of getting certain cancers.
Whole grains and nuts are an extremely terrific addition to your lifestyle. If you have a history of heart disease, eating whole grains will help you fight it and can give you a chance at a more fulfilling existence. Nuts contain folic acid, which is great in fighting colon cancer. They have dietary fiber, potassium and magnesium too. You should be smiling!
Even if you do not lean toward low fat vegetarian diets, it is a good thing to put more of these advantageous items into your menu. Your skin and mind will clear from the vegetarian diet meal plan.
